Chapter 9 The Inland South

The Inland South has prospered throughout the years and has integrated the mainstream of the political economy of the United States. As it prospered in the American political economy, it became a major cultural center of North America as it contributed in the North American culture such as the music genres jazz and blues.

Just like the Inland South, Guam music has also played a key element in the cultural aspect of the island. Chamorro music takes a hold of a wide variety of musical styles that reflect on various historical eras with wide varieties of musical influence. As a form of Chamorro music, it has been used to accompany modern versions of ancient Chamorro dances. This form of Chamorro music continues to go on today in a more modern aspect but keeps the cultural aspect of the island too.

Other than dance, Chamorro music has also accompanied singing such as a call and response. The call and response type is a competitive form of singing when one singer wins when the other singer cannot create a response. This type of singing became a way to form chants and tell stories about the island culture.
